Youth Swim Classes

Living in West Michigan, we have many opportunities to participate in water activities. The SLCFAC wants to make sure that everyone is comfortable with their swimming experience by providing group lessons for ages 6 months on up. Group lessons are available for members and non-members. One certified instructor per 5 participants in each class; except for Water Babies – parents are in the water for the class.

At the Fitness and Aquatic Center, we run swim classes year round.

Swim Lesson Levels and Descriptions:

Parent and Child -  Familiarize children between the ages of 6 months and approximately 3 years with the water and teach swimming readiness skills and to provide safety information for parents and teach techniques parents can use to orient their children to the water.

Level 1 - Orient participants to the aquatic environment and help them gain basic aquatic skills. Help participants begin to develop positive attitudes and safe practices around water.

Level 2 - Build on the basic aquatic skills and water safety skills and concepts learned in Level 1.

Level 3 - Build on the skills learned in Levels 1 and 2 to help participants achieve basic water competency in a pool environment.

Level 4 - Improve participants’ proficiency in performing the swimming strokes that were introduced in Level 3.

Level 5 - Help participants refine their performance of swimming strokes (i.e., front crawl, back crawl, intro to butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke).

Swim Fit Youth -  Refine strokes so participants swim them with greater efficiency and effectiveness over longer distances.
